<span style="font-size: large;">Let me just say, I love July! </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">July 4th is one of my favorite holidays - I love being at ball games and hearing the National Anthem being played this month. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">July also starts to slow down at our house - well, a little bit. The boys are only playing baseball on the weekends which frees me up just a little bit to catch up on things. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Over Christmas vacation I started stitching The Prairie Schooler Santa collections. I only have 8 done to this point, but decided to put the backing on them this afternoon. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I am going to be SO happy come December that I have these 8 done. Maybe I can get a few more stitched before it's time to decorate for Christmas. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I chose to do the envelope method of backing - when you are done there's no stitching the opening closed. </span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">Like so many of you, I started Cross Stitching in the 80's. My first project in the summer of 1987 was a Teddy Bear alphabet wall hanging that I made, intending to give to the first grandchild on my side of the family, who was set to arrive in October 1987. I took that project with me to my boyfriend's softball games and would stitch in between games. In the end, my Mom wouldn't let me give it to my new born nephew - I needed to save it for my own kids. Mom said I had way too much work in that piece to give it away. That boyfriend became my husband, 10 years later we had our daughter and I hated that cross stitch piece! I'm now saying that I'm saving it for our grandchildren. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Shortly after starting the Cross Stitch obsession, I decided on the Floss*A*Way bags as my way to organize my growing collection of DMC threads. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKRa6Cut9qQQVvBnCHZZvBU30mkBwZAtcCw6PSkLqYFBAxhhOLSSY431yz97ziaIq-DN7bJXB4dRR9ZD4IP1J9HiRoPYvKAMpQYF0dvc5pODVkOZSy0LGdpIgElU6pwD5A9zurQFAs8DI/s1600/108.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKRa6Cut9qQQVvBnCHZZvBU30mkBwZAtcCw6PSkLqYFBAxhhOLSSY431yz97ziaIq-DN7bJXB4dRR9ZD4IP1J9HiRoPYvKAMpQYF0dvc5pODVkOZSy0LGdpIgElU6pwD5A9zurQFAs8DI/s320/108.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">When JoAnn's had floss 4/$1.00 back in the early 1990's I would buy several skeins on each visit. Did I really need to have every single color? Have I ever used every single color? </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">NO! But I have them, just in case..... </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWB0BrKNDCg8obc2fC6ZJ74eUoAUl-TuAGoaCl_oQGqe_W2c0iEyENIdqlJqmhOcqIq5Iv5GDoweyiwOuKkFhPmGWpcQEg1WE44SPCJ_F2KT0S46dTUi66oj0sXvD-SehfAJXEDoBzFxA/s1600/225.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWB0BrKNDCg8obc2fC6ZJ74eUoAUl-TuAGoaCl_oQGqe_W2c0iEyENIdqlJqmhOcqIq5Iv5GDoweyiwOuKkFhPmGWpcQEg1WE44SPCJ_F2KT0S46dTUi66oj0sXvD-SehfAJXEDoBzFxA/s320/225.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Move aside DMC</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I've found a new love (maybe I should be real and say addiction)</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> Simply Shaker Threads.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Oh Wow! is all I can say about these threads. They are dyed to give a slight variation in the color in stitching projects. It's a very subtle variation that I will compare to highlighting and shading in painting. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">My collection at the moment is only about 20 skeins, but I will be adding to it! </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">One of my favorite designers is Pineberry Lane. Most of Wendy's patterns that I have use the Simply Shaker Threads. My current project is Autumn on Marigold Lane by Pineberry Lane. The flowers in the big urn are stitched with just one thread color - Autumn Leaves and they are so pretty in person. <br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiw_VJyVq05WOQQvyN4szcq17UPpquERWvl4gUcqz1fkjJb0AdMneXEnCx70YjZaH44rl3pgcG-2pTvMFRxUBplA-shOZALWwZgnMlM-Xkx2iT5XqQkX4KDHyP8jT191-T3s74FL7R3wcc/s1600/227.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiw_VJyVq05WOQQvyN4szcq17UPpquERWvl4gUcqz1fkjJb0AdMneXEnCx70YjZaH44rl3pgcG-2pTvMFRxUBplA-shOZALWwZgnMlM-Xkx2iT5XqQkX4KDHyP8jT191-T3s74FL7R3wcc/s320/227.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">If you are looking for a source for the Simply Shaker Threads, may I suggest Rachelle of The Cottage Needle, found on Etsy <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/thecottageneedle?ref=ss_profile">HERE</a>. Rachelle is wonderful, she has a great selection of patterns, fabrics and threads. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Thought I'd show you a mistake that I made. I stained this piece just a "tad" too dark with coffee. I was just sick, as I can't even tell where my stitching is or what it's supposed to say. UGH. How many hours did I spend on this one? I couldn't even think about it. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">"Kindred Spirits" by Primitive Needle<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxihGO8wQkM-TNtgfPJQnQlVUKOsU9SrY7EVXZ6v467A36W-oKvumN2MZRskscYL9jvcDN_eDmvehpXw1ZKaV8a61O4WaVwkSqUoIwEba29IflQk8GJ_I9akqyl7aKmR_IIPZqJD3qwPU/s1600/222.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxihGO8wQkM-TNtgfPJQnQlVUKOsU9SrY7EVXZ6v467A36W-oKvumN2MZRskscYL9jvcDN_eDmvehpXw1ZKaV8a61O4WaVwkSqUoIwEba29IflQk8GJ_I9akqyl7aKmR_IIPZqJD3qwPU/s320/222.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> I was so afraid after baking the piece in the oven that the coffee stain would be permanently set. What did I have to lose? I took it to the sink and started running room temperature water over the piece. Enough of the stain washed out that I can now see my stitching! YAY! Happy Day. </span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Oh, My Goodness! Where have I been? It has been over 3 months since I last posted.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">These last few months have brought about several changes at our household: </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The last time I have to buy a prom dress, it will just be tuxedo's from now on. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The dress was the easy part - the shoes were a nightmare to find. We were down to days prior to the big event before we found "the pair". It doesn't help when we live an hour from the nearest shopping centers. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I'm sure I'll still have to buy dresses like the one on the left, but what a day we had. Carrie needed 2 dresses; one for scholarship interviews and a different one for the awards ceremony/graduation. We spent the entire day at the mall looking for "the outfit". Wouldn't you know it was the last store we went into! </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">At one point we were laughing so hard in the fitting room I was in tears. I can't picture this happening with the boys!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">**************************</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Then there was the No Graduation Party Party. In January she decided she didn't want a party, by February she thought she would, March back to no. Late in April she changed her mind AGAIN. And she had very specific requests. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">1. Mom's roll out cookies decorated like flowers</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">2. Mom's smoked pulled pork</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">My husband put his foot down and said I didn't have time to smoke all the pork - Thank you! He called and ordered it from a local guy who does this as a business. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The cookies were another story. I made 2 batches of my roll out cookies, decorated them and put them into the freezer. On Memorial Day we spent 12 hours making more. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">It dawned on my after making the first batch on Memorial Day that the first 2 batches I'd made were egg-less ( I wondered at the time why they weren't puffy). I forgot to put in the eggs! Oh, My Gosh! I don't have this kind of time. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Another Last - our youngest son is done with Little League Baseball - he moves on to a bigger field next year in Jr. High. Kind of a sad day to say good bye to this level of ball. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I love this picture of him in his catcher's gear. His Dad was a catcher in both high school and college. It's fun to see him follow in Dad's footsteps. Spring is always busy with baseball for us - in the month of June we had just 3 days without a ball game. But there's no where else I'd rather be! </span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I guess this next one is a "second". Son #1 now has his permit. I will miss our daughter in so many ways when she heads off to college in the fall - one of those ways is her hauling the younger 2 around. There will be a 3 month period, after she leaves before he can get his license. UGH. </span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"> Finally a weekend without every single minute filled! After the long basketball season with our middle child it was nice to have a weekend at home. (9 straight weekends were Friday AND Saturday night games....whew) </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">A couple of projects that I wanted done.....</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZ21Z0RBOib9ursnMSFD0bLfN99R84h2TfMd00PM8ZmQCaM2Vh91ObNwWLqyTnIT96YlQEySwAuke0kYsFywg1Hakga7lruJBCcUQPRMP8uHzezFoJ2h2Kw6Akjnxvai7jutkdBR9njng/s1600/042.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-size: large;"><img alt="saltbox hooked mat, cat hooked mat, antique flowers hooked mat" border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZ21Z0RBOib9ursnMSFD0bLfN99R84h2TfMd00PM8ZmQCaM2Vh91ObNwWLqyTnIT96YlQEySwAuke0kYsFywg1Hakga7lruJBCcUQPRMP8uHzezFoJ2h2Kw6Akjnxvai7jutkdBR9njng/s400/042.JPG" title="hooked rugs" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">My 3 most recent hooking projects hung. Not sure they will all stay here, but I liked them grouped together for the time being. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">This narrow wall space is at the base of our stairs, sandwiched between the front door and the windows of our "music" room - the room where the piano collects dust. It adds some interest to this forgotten wall. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIlqC2CLPSi2dT9rUhq2d404BBl4OZXMMhJRSwiiQsb7dAyRc6bLU4wjdbkokGr3CXltd2OY8mQ5uPJ2VjsQaHP3IWN5ASu56-wnAWfauPOa9Ks0kRP9NtbSm3gMiBQMUKfUuTZXXwlgY/s1600/047.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIlqC2CLPSi2dT9rUhq2d404BBl4OZXMMhJRSwiiQsb7dAyRc6bLU4wjdbkokGr3CXltd2OY8mQ5uPJ2VjsQaHP3IWN5ASu56-wnAWfauPOa9Ks0kRP9NtbSm3gMiBQMUKfUuTZXXwlgY/s320/047.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Last year when we were moving my Mom, one of the treasures that I saved from the dumpster were several of my Grandmother's hooked rugs. I wish I knew how many rugs my Grandmother hooked during her lifetime. I was only 9 when she died, so my time with her was limited. We lived several hours apart and didn't see each other very often. I think it might have to do with the fact that she and her son (my Dad) butted heads and she and my Mom didn't see eye to eye either. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">But to me she was Kack, my loving grandmother. She baked the BEST molasses cookies, her "cookie jar" - it was a gallon jug - like a pickle jar was always full of these wonderful cookies. She taught me how to crochet a chain - which I still have, it's green and I keep it in my sewing basket. I remember the day I said something to my Mom about Kack smoking and my Mom dropping what she was doing to ask me how I knew that! Well, Mother, her house smells like cigarette smoke. My Grandfather had died several year before so there was only one person it could be. I guess it was a deep dark secret that we were supposed to ignore! </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">One of several room sized rugs that Kack hooked.... </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2sqrCxTthlQS5lgF2Zx24pXLl2hfNTul62JhQ3ge5UXnGozuU6s28A4RAb6yaCJMTYqvIgZIASE1efSrCWsXPDPVfZXjxEtM-8eO-BTysibz4NBxQabKfl0E1i8eLePOIH_Gru640TCs/s1600/033.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2sqrCxTthlQS5lgF2Zx24pXLl2hfNTul62JhQ3ge5UXnGozuU6s28A4RAb6yaCJMTYqvIgZIASE1efSrCWsXPDPVfZXjxEtM-8eO-BTysibz4NBxQabKfl0E1i8eLePOIH_Gru640TCs/s320/033.JPG" title="antique hooked rug" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I'm not sure how I feel about it on the wall. It's REALLY big and not quite what I had pictured in my head of how it would look. My initial reaction was to take it right back down. We left it up, I'll give it a few more days to grow on me and to give my husband some time to realize he may have to take it back down and fill the holes in the wall! My thought now is it will go on the floor in our bedroom. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> I think this one is my favorite. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-KFWunButXcYGc08zF2i_YobVzvYia3TQAEzOC3wSWSnyCFJGKzpDx9By87cPHwbKMAp6tiTcBuEhibFUAKvpHJaCBvheGcu2p1AI1mBswCw7G4ldYdkjLS1N_9Z5bIC7smi8NyPYEwA/s1600/048.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="autumn leaves hooked rug" border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-KFWunButXcYGc08zF2i_YobVzvYia3TQAEzOC3wSWSnyCFJGKzpDx9By87cPHwbKMAp6tiTcBuEhibFUAKvpHJaCBvheGcu2p1AI1mBswCw7G4ldYdkjLS1N_9Z5bIC7smi8NyPYEwA/s320/048.JPG" title="antique hooked rug " width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> Kack's shading is just perfect in this. She dyed her own wool, all of which was recycled clothing and blankets. The colors look so nice with our kitchen floor and this old cabinet. (That's the cat food container on the left!) I have 5 more rugs to find homes for - I wonder how my husband will feel about testing one out on another wall...above the piano maybe??</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;"> I recently won this beeswax basket from Misi at </span><span style="font-size: x-large;"><a href="http://1890gablehousemusings.blogspot.com/">Gable House Goods</a>. </span><span style="font-size: large;">It smells heavenly! I love all of Misi's creations - this basket joins several other of her pieces in my house. (I still have pumpkins out that I purchased from her last fall. They smell so good, I can't put them away!) Misi still has some of these baskets left, visit her by clicking the link above to go to her blog. </span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"> I just finished Posies in the Middle by Humble Rugs. I picked up the pattern at The Rug Show at Sauder Village in August. For some time, I've been debating the colors to use and how to handle the tongues. I used 4 different golds for the tongue outline and 2 different wools for the middle row. The middle row of each tongue is the same wool. I'm happy with how this turned out. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;"> The current home of this rug is on top of a standing cupboard in our dining room. The funny thing is, both cats have decided they need to test it out as a sleeping spot. Actually it's not funny - this story takes a BAD turn.....</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">I started Cross Stitching when I was in college in 1987. There was a cross stitch store in the small city where I went to college, full of charts of teddy bears and hearts and 14 count aida in a rainbow of colors. Should I have studied more and cross stitched less? </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Probably! </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">After stitching for years on 14 count, I made the change to higher count linen. I loved my new stitching look and discarded all my left over 14 count cloth. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Recently someone gifted me a piece of 18 count. I was never a fan of 18 count, w</span><span style="font-size: large;">hat was I going to do with it? </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> I had printed out Pamela's free chart "BELIEVE" (found</span><a href="http://ourpioneerhomestead.blogspot.ca/2012/04/free-inspirational-cross-stitch-pattern.html"> <span style="font-size: x-large;">HERE</span></a><span style="font-size: x-large;"> </span><span style="font-size: large;">at Our Pioneer Homestead) </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I used 3 strands of hand dyed floss, stitched over 2 threads and backed the pillow with felted wool. By stitching this way, the design measures approximately 5 1/2" by 15". This was a perfect use for the 18 count! Thank you Pam. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I used hand-dyed floss on this pillow too - floss from Victorian Motto Sampler Shop -</span><span style="font-size: x-large;"> <a href="http://victorianmottosamplershoppe.blogspot.com/">HERE</a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Here's the confession part - </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">1. There aren't enough hours in the day for me to keep up with my blog friend Marly of Samplers and Santas. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">2. Her post showing off her Prairie Schooler Santas (found</span><span style="font-size: x-large;"><a href="http://samplers-and-santas.blogspot.com/2012/12/stuck-in-neutral.html"> HERE</a>)</span><span style="font-size: large;"> still has me drooling. You MUST click the link and see her wonderful tree. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">3. I haven't stitched on 14 count in at least 15 years, remember I'm a cross stitch snob! </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Using the Father Christmas Chart and 14 count I stitched my first 8 Santa's. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7kuDmUnm6deGPRliUtt3zqYXHE-H2nGNKHJj9YgtBr5nAzAFu2Ere2U6hHM9gOdnR3hhcwAXPwvDEoM-STyt6kXtcguzKFn85bMpp-ptox2dPMa7mOIQqhuTYayUi2CK-dmUDS7Rx4k8/s1600/033.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7kuDmUnm6deGPRliUtt3zqYXHE-H2nGNKHJj9YgtBr5nAzAFu2Ere2U6hHM9gOdnR3hhcwAXPwvDEoM-STyt6kXtcguzKFn85bMpp-ptox2dPMa7mOIQqhuTYayUi2CK-dmUDS7Rx4k8/s320/033.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I actually enjoyed stitching on 14 count again. I think it might have something to do with the fact that I need bifocals.... </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The Santa's are now sitting in my UFO pile. I've come to the conclusion I wouldn't know what to do if I didn't have a UFO pile! </span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">Our kitchen floor is made from pine. Pine boards from Home Depot. Plain Pine Boards. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqvdRDoObmV7riT5orSWGItHXs_Pu2Nlw8cHbbWSVeX5MKLUmhEfJCu-ItDVHpPbJKQCTaIik9t1EewKHLDqAnT6TUix25UZHjzbEWdHekBszNhQhkVGMJbXKyoyrIiezdeQjBBL84MQg/s1600/006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqvdRDoObmV7riT5orSWGItHXs_Pu2Nlw8cHbbWSVeX5MKLUmhEfJCu-ItDVHpPbJKQCTaIik9t1EewKHLDqAnT6TUix25UZHjzbEWdHekBszNhQhkVGMJbXKyoyrIiezdeQjBBL84MQg/s320/006.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> I hand picked each board - my husband dug through and pulled out boards for my approval. You will see the knots in the boards - they are all Number 2 quality. I don't like Number 1 - I didn't want a perfect floor! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I will tell you this floor was rather a battle between us. My husband likes perfect. He ofcourse would have chosen the Number 1 boards. Since he couldn't do that, he spent quite a bit of time in preparation. He put a tongue and groove in each board, planned a layout and nailed all the boards in place through the tongue so there would be no nails visible. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIKmHn1jFWAgemic6kISYyA5IdUqJG4bv-x4pfBMRMzZkI7NXey_rBnikW3yY8jliXb0TvXTT0gN0te30AY_EkwaL66pEdmY7xXFhU5uv0FPhLKCaq2IdG4SkC1rSd2ITdAhO-43E2HaU/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIKmHn1jFWAgemic6kISYyA5IdUqJG4bv-x4pfBMRMzZkI7NXey_rBnikW3yY8jliXb0TvXTT0gN0te30AY_EkwaL66pEdmY7xXFhU5uv0FPhLKCaq2IdG4SkC1rSd2ITdAhO-43E2HaU/s320/007.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Then came the finishing - no one was allowed to help. He put on the gel stain by himself to get it perfect. We used the color Pecan from Olde Century Paints. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The floor looked perfect for some time - and then life happened.....</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">In front of the fridge where everyone stands, the stain/varnish have worn off<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNhQ1-ITFtv5KHvmC1MrsWFWTO-1LKP8upZCEKJNT8wuiCYSRcCJOLoaa91_BptUsb3bPSOFFazSzyd62E4uwfnx2JdDwMsvA9E9ud2q-KMXG9KVQzhnaa8HiwaL9bbL9joWUJA8v4avo/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNhQ1-ITFtv5KHvmC1MrsWFWTO-1LKP8upZCEKJNT8wuiCYSRcCJOLoaa91_BptUsb3bPSOFFazSzyd62E4uwfnx2JdDwMsvA9E9ud2q-KMXG9KVQzhnaa8HiwaL9bbL9joWUJA8v4avo/s320/008.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Our pivot spot, coming off the carpet from the living room where we turn the corner to go to the basement or into the kitchen. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> I wanted reproduction nails in the floor. My husband wanted no part of nails in his perfect floor. I don't nag, however every couple months I'd mention something about nails. After letting him think about it for about a year the nails went in. It was a family affair. I had to drill the pilot holes exactly where I wanted each nail and the boys helped Dad pound them in. Everytime the hammer hit the floor, Dad cringed and Mom grinned. I LOVE the various marks in our floor. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi76ezs61FC8EpDhkbrat14akMlHwehM2lKtPvGB-vNq3meHJuPKOEzgldbLzXie6y5n88m2zgULPqBJiX9T4It0eLnD-Y4v-VlcYZ7w-q4YysTfzaJEnbcMD81HKDkIncnv-XM-flOF80/s1600/010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi76ezs61FC8EpDhkbrat14akMlHwehM2lKtPvGB-vNq3meHJuPKOEzgldbLzXie6y5n88m2zgULPqBJiX9T4It0eLnD-Y4v-VlcYZ7w-q4YysTfzaJEnbcMD81HKDkIncnv-XM-flOF80/s320/010.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I will admit this floor isn't for everyone - especially if you like perfect. If you don't like scrubbing on your hands and knees, this floor isn't for you. I don't mop - afraid of too much moisture, it's on my knees using a well rung out rag. I do have to vacuum out the spacing between the boards. And there are places where there is spacing - not much but enough to collect crumbs. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">*********************************</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">A little progress on my hooking....our youngest is on his second day out of school. We've never had one of our kids this sick. Dr. said he was on his way to pneumonia when we took him in. He hasn't moved off the couch and wants me sitting at the other end with him. Thank goodness he "lets" me work on this! </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6EVSSZDcxGNx-QP1T04fXdXBvJ0rmCeURvDCBRAosaqU8lMvovJfbBq2niMkszVSukIVjI-jlwh2sltnRrd_-xZ5WbWfEiI-dlk6Aad6uXQEcHrON3KEPL0EpFP8Px9n2kdGOJOQ8UYw/s1600/012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6EVSSZDcxGNx-QP1T04fXdXBvJ0rmCeURvDCBRAosaqU8lMvovJfbBq2niMkszVSukIVjI-jlwh2sltnRrd_-xZ5WbWfEiI-dlk6Aad6uXQEcHrON3KEPL0EpFP8Px9n2kdGOJOQ8UYw/s320/012.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I need to do a little reverse hooking in the bottom right corner. I dont' like the backwards letter R. It's not supposed to be, just how the wool hooked up. I'll never see anything but that R so it's coming out. (Ok, so I don't like perfect in floors, but my crafting is a different story!)</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"> I decided it was WAY past time to dig this piece out of my basket and finish it! I stalled on it back when school started - I was debating putting in the date. Several of you weighed in on the date debate - I appreciate your comments. My friend Lauren, of Rugs and Pugs advised me to remove the numbers, which I did. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoYVsLgGj-FTW77wzGnsm3Tt-1nn7JyFx4zFG2IDjWqbZE05yjf_EK0cx0OI8-QDzrbMJKwv27Ox66X2tWGf8x9wfOLANLoO1J0N-8ahg4hu_zvmrZKnE_CQeheIX2uVfODyOuG__qeo8/s1600/040.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoYVsLgGj-FTW77wzGnsm3Tt-1nn7JyFx4zFG2IDjWqbZE05yjf_EK0cx0OI8-QDzrbMJKwv27Ox66X2tWGf8x9wfOLANLoO1J0N-8ahg4hu_zvmrZKnE_CQeheIX2uVfODyOuG__qeo8/s400/040.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I am happy with the piece as it turned out, thank you Lauren! I decided that Lauren and I were together when I bought the pattern so I'd follow her advice. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">This pattern is from Wendy Miller of The Red Salt Box, called Easy Floral. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The same day I purchased this pattern too - Posies in the Middle by Humble Rugs. I've put in a few strips.....</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjISCz81bd4QqIyTHTS7DqpcOlAku5qcW15plFg_lhFlno9-iADEzfH2bHti1y4P_IBIb6uxUmd7TcLSVbVjcKHn-W_ZWWaV3DfwkaC7gyuneH95qka3GnJ30N699a7JR7Zl_Pufk7fVbA/s1600/038.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="261" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjISCz81bd4QqIyTHTS7DqpcOlAku5qcW15plFg_lhFlno9-iADEzfH2bHti1y4P_IBIb6uxUmd7TcLSVbVjcKHn-W_ZWWaV3DfwkaC7gyuneH95qka3GnJ30N699a7JR7Zl_Pufk7fVbA/s400/038.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I've been on Pinterest, studying rugs for color inspiration. I am using different values of wool for the 3 rows in each tongue. I've found several rugs with more of a hit and miss tongue and they are very nice. I just can't do all sorts of different colors, I need the order of only a few colors - that's my personality!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I want a dark background for this one - I'm not sure there will be enough of a contrast between the tongues and the background - I may be doing some reverse hooking. (groan!) I know I'm taking out the centers of the flowers - way too light - I think...... </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Hope you are staying warm this winter - it's typical NW Ohio weather here; it snows and then warms up and melts it. Only to repeat the process again. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;">I've been collecting blackened beeswax ornaments for over a year - I just love the various scents that the makers add and the simplicity of the ornaments is addicting - I have to have more! </span><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-QlJWJlQx2gdCbF5w3qCdOqgxc1NX_Vh6oL8FkEzXzbZL09_ByBCtQoteT3Yud1ZvkkLIfXz_u_IMxS11z4L8TAZ5p2VNXXJ-aNNsGfgXRKSR2DN3qd41uVSe6JKcZcoQlg6QZ24rcbE/s1600/022.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="241" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-QlJWJlQx2gdCbF5w3qCdOqgxc1NX_Vh6oL8FkEzXzbZL09_ByBCtQoteT3Yud1ZvkkLIfXz_u_IMxS11z4L8TAZ5p2VNXXJ-aNNsGfgXRKSR2DN3qd41uVSe6JKcZcoQlg6QZ24rcbE/s320/022.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">My dilemma became how to display these gorgeous little pieces. I had them on a German Twig tree that I have, but they just got lost. There wasn't enough contrast between the dark tree branches and the darker color of the ornaments. </span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> An off white feather tree is what I came up with. I purchased wire at Michael's or JoAnn's - can't remember which, along with white floral stem tape. Found a cream wool skirt at Goodwill that I felted slightly and cut into strips, a dowel from the garage and a pair of my husband's pliers. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOokS-GQxsEmYvyaW_e3yfuy6qorPtWHgv6QpN-LXbtL-mXGFxbtOkn4njgMCcd_LskLImL7RondkkSA6MJF9E47hyVJ705rR8oAa2kVxVAWZ1K-l3Lg41K0_moTzMqYNKc_teMaaa6ks/s1600/021.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOokS-GQxsEmYvyaW_e3yfuy6qorPtWHgv6QpN-LXbtL-mXGFxbtOkn4njgMCcd_LskLImL7RondkkSA6MJF9E47hyVJ705rR8oAa2kVxVAWZ1K-l3Lg41K0_moTzMqYNKc_teMaaa6ks/s320/021.JPG" width="236" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I started by marking off the spacing of the branches and then fringe cutting the strips. The wire branches were then wrapped with the wool strips and attached to the dowel. </span></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbQfR22Elpzf3uQ_X0QeayQpUVH-fJaU_kok5F3hZr3ddzyuzhXRQeq_rP2ItsrlM7ozduDZvU0dnSnQ6jGlVc1BmcBs4KaVzLp_4PX2TSdRl-hYlKFOqvjIywvi5VLn3iiJTjYR34QWE/s1600/023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbQfR22Elpzf3uQ_X0QeayQpUVH-fJaU_kok5F3hZr3ddzyuzhXRQeq_rP2ItsrlM7ozduDZvU0dnSnQ6jGlVc1BmcBs4KaVzLp_4PX2TSdRl-hYlKFOqvjIywvi5VLn3iiJTjYR34QWE/s320/023.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I did learn a couple of things - </span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">1.Start the branches at the top and work down - it would have been easier to add the next row this way.</span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">2. Buy more than one roll of floral tape, especially if you are like me and live an hour away from Michael's! </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnVcF_WaJ0PZUmE8q2vVPUDHjg4G76ii4lr2KBPYx4Lma1GBnrIcwxavVxIjbYwFK0CkuDS_GQgnIsrRn3yetltsUcCvUZojktTdtesmmmZ2z6h9bHZRCQbjGfRWIElLpMZTbrdbey1h0/s1600/024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnVcF_WaJ0PZUmE8q2vVPUDHjg4G76ii4lr2KBPYx4Lma1GBnrIcwxavVxIjbYwFK0CkuDS_GQgnIsrRn3yetltsUcCvUZojktTdtesmmmZ2z6h9bHZRCQbjGfRWIElLpMZTbrdbey1h0/s400/024.JPG" width="298" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The one large round disc that you see just below the center point is actually a little heavy for my branches. While I'm happy with my project I am thinking how I could create a different feather tree with heavier gauge wire for the branches to support the weight of the larger ornaments that I have. Any thoughts or advice? </span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">I seem to be a little confused...I know it's almost New Year's and I'm talking about Halloween. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">All these stitcheries were finished - well you know "finished" - in my world that means the stitching was done and they were sitting in my cross stitch basket. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">In order to really finish them, the sewing machine needed to be set up, backings chosen and directions followed. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">If you've followed me for some time you know I'm not a big finisher. I love the stitching part, it's the completion that drags on. </span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">I have never before taken such a long break from blogland! My last post was almost 3 months ago - WOW. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I've been a little busy with school starting and then I received a few basket orders that totaled over 100 baskets that needed to be made. Add in my 3 kids and their activities and something (s) had to take a back seat. I haven't touched my rug hooking or my cross stitch since school started either. I haven't been on Pinterest, which I was addicted to over the summer and I've done nothing, nada, zero, zilch other than weave, weave, weave. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Thought I'd share with you some of those 100 baskets with you....</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">This year is a rough one at school, I took on a new to our district student. My last little guy moved on to our school system's next building, I could have moved with him, but I really enjoy working for the teacher I've been with for 3 years. To say that my current student is a challenge is sugar coating the situation. He is physically aggressive and challenged on every level. The saddest part is that his birth mother was addicted to drugs that are the cause of so many of his delays. It is a sad situation, however he now has wonderful adoptive parents. We've made progress in 3 months, but the aggression is still present. </span></div>

I know we'd be friends in "real life" too if we only lived closer. </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">We've gone back and forth commenting on each other's blogs and emailing each other. Earlier this year we decided to do a swap - baskets for bonnets is the name of the swap!</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">I think we are addicted to each others work, another swap was in order. Today's mail brought the most delightful package........</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"> Every year when I attend the Rug Hooking show at Sauder Village in Archbold Ohio, the bug bites me a little harder. Each year, I venture farther and farther into this wool hobby of mine. I always feel so intimidated when I attend the show, the feeling I have that my hooking will never be that good, I wish I could combine colors like that, etc.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Attending the show this year with my blog friend and now real life friend Lauren of <a href="http://rugsandpugs.blogspot.com/">Rugs and Pugs </a>was like having my own private tour guide. Thank you so much Lauren. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">My purchases at the show:</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Pumpkin Kit by Wendy Miller of Red Salt Box </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Someone else has taken the time to pull together all the wools and cut the strips. I don't have a cutter so I have to resort to my rotary cutting tool & mat. This pumpkin kit included antique paisley strips to hook into the pumpkin. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">I was brave enough to purchase 2 patterns - one of them Antique Florals by Wendy Miller of The Red Salt Box. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">My progress on this one so far - I LOVE rugs with dark backgrounds and simple designs. I added the year to this one - not sure I'm happy with it. What do you think - should I take out the 2012? The corners just seem so big with nothing in them. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5zww5OTh4TJsT-NVUTNW6Ccf-WRgr0aoT2aAxrIOBTK4sJbLxx5OVw4axVRdNJhQcGUsHyJWZJ34Lg6tuyQd_mSpgamBKyWnQJc4wcoD-rDWJgf_Ot_T66eIsFz3Um_5XaN2aFec16kc/s1600/129.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="236" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5zww5OTh4TJsT-NVUTNW6Ccf-WRgr0aoT2aAxrIOBTK4sJbLxx5OVw4axVRdNJhQcGUsHyJWZJ34Lg6tuyQd_mSpgamBKyWnQJc4wcoD-rDWJgf_Ot_T66eIsFz3Um_5XaN2aFec16kc/s320/129.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">I recently did a swap with Saundra of <a href="http://woodlandjunction.blogspot.com/">Woodland Junction</a> blog. I sent her one of my Rug Hooker's Tote baskets. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">This purse that she hooked is gorgeous. The hooking is perfect and her finishing is WOW! Her attention to detail is wonderful - the lining is sewn in with such care. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">If you aren't a hooker, but want a hooked piece, check out Saundra's blog for a link to her website. I highly recommend her work. </span></div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">And she made me one of her spoon necklaces with what else on it but 1803 Ohio Farm Baskets! The handle of the spoon says "WOOL". Aren't these great? Lauren, I LOVE them. </span></div><br />

My hooking journey to date has been pretty lonely - I took one class several years ago and have worked at it on my own since. It was so nice to have Lauren imparting her rug hooking knowledge to me as we walked around and looked at the rugs. Our taste in rug hooking is very similar and liked many of the same things. My goal for the coming year is to attend an actual hooking event with Lauren. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

The boys set up the badminton net in the backyard and I'm constantly being challenged to a game. My youngest can no longer be beat by this Mom! I think I laugh on the court more than hit the birdie. There is no mercy shown to me as either their Mother or as a "girl". </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Earlier today, I finished this stitchery into a pillow for Halloween. It's a Stacy Nash pattern - "If the broom fits". The pattern does not call for it to be finished this way, but I happened to have a perfect size pillow form. </span></div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Yesterday we celebrated "Happy Lucky Day" for our gray cat, Shadow aka Graybee. 2 years ago yesterday my husband went into our local Town & Country store. The store has cages with kittens and dogs from the county humane society. When he arrived back home, he announced "there is a little gray kitten at Town & Country". That's all that needed said, we all piled into the van and went to visit. Were we even looking for a kitten? </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjofztjO29EAE2sHCBifqAHTY6PxT8ndDhqVBRyggWYKaGUrvXpeGAWdaeMe8ZzH71eA0sXVMxA5eyoXPsnNXfhhb-8jnCxaZQ7-4e3rBkMkSyt-_37ciBjCk6L67L4lie-RyEW-dqoU9Y/s1600/454.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjofztjO29EAE2sHCBifqAHTY6PxT8ndDhqVBRyggWYKaGUrvXpeGAWdaeMe8ZzH71eA0sXVMxA5eyoXPsnNXfhhb-8jnCxaZQ7-4e3rBkMkSyt-_37ciBjCk6L67L4lie-RyEW-dqoU9Y/s320/454.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">5 bodies went to the store and 6 came home. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Shadow is the perfect name for him, it started out due to his color, but what we didn't know is how social he is. Every morning when we get up, he's right there to greet us, often he has to be carried downstairs or we'd trip over him. He hoards things, stray pieces of my basket reed and any kind of bag that is crinkly are his favorites. He stashes his treasures in the kids' rooms. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

The idea was to dig out those projects that are half way completed and FINISH them. One of the winner's of the challenge was Cathy from </span><a href="http://tolentreasures.blogspot.com/"><span style="font-size: x-large;">Tolentreasures</span></a><span style="font-size: large;"> blog. Cathy has an unbelievable amount of energy and finishes LOTS of projects. She also has her fair share of unfinished projects sitting around, as a matter of fact she just posted several of them today. I sent her a challenge (since I have a HUGE stack of UFO's sitting around) to see what we can finish by Friday. </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">I'll share this photo with you, all from my cross stitch basket. Who knew I had so many finished stitcheries sitting in there? (Note to the Cranky Crow - you thought I was kidding didn't you?!)</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVrNnaxMmpoifOG7gs1UGSkz6_q8pLthJeZSyWGESJypuyqoozdWyNg4YkmBA_4CbsR1kKJtj8GknXFK6HD-duEqQ6Bx3bl6Op3UvHs4LeIfXA9M5gp__RJ28EUV_IsW8eGFF-uv084iQ/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVrNnaxMmpoifOG7gs1UGSkz6_q8pLthJeZSyWGESJypuyqoozdWyNg4YkmBA_4CbsR1kKJtj8GknXFK6HD-duEqQ6Bx3bl6Op3UvHs4LeIfXA9M5gp__RJ28EUV_IsW8eGFF-uv084iQ/s320/001.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Several of these need frames, some made into pillows. There's a tie that my son needs mended (don't like to mend) a wool coin purse that needs finished, 3 wall hangings that are in different stages of being completed. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">If you would like to join Cathy & me this week, jump on board. Let's see how many projects we can get done! </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Leave either one of us a comment if you want, we can link to your blog and we'll all show off throughout the week what we get done. </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">~Ann</span></div>Annhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12546132613947684807noreply@blogger.com5
