Picked up this peg rack at a garage sale for $1.00 (actually bought 2 of them). I am not a heart person - I'm a star person so I needed to do something with this. After hitting LOTS of garage sales this summer I don't think I'm the only non-heart person! There are lots of shelves out there with hearts on them, eagerly awaiting a prim make over. I don't remember on which of your wonderful blogs I saw an idea that inspired me, but a big thanks goes out to YOU! (Now I know that it was Janene - thank you Janene!) I decided to stitch the word "blessings" on osnaburg then I attached that to a stained piece of ticking.

Oh i am loving that, I have redid a few hearts myself!
ReplyDeleteWell I’ll be dog gone… that right there is just brilliant! Good job!
ReplyDeleteThat turned out great, Ann! I love it!!
ReplyDeleteTake care,
~Kris~
I love it!!! I have a few pieces that have hearts and you just gave me a great idea! Thanks..love your blog.
ReplyDeleteA really neat idea, thanks for sharing, I've passed up some at GW because of the heart cutout now I don't have to:)

I just picked up several heart wood pieces from a cousin that thinks that hearts are still in (she also thinks it the 1980's, too). How sweet of her to think of me! LOL She had been saving them for me.
ReplyDeleteI just love your idea for covering it. I maybe CAN work with them now.
So much better! I have a few things with the hearts on them that need makeovers. Good idea!
ReplyDeleteNice idea. I bought few pieces in TS that have hearts, and this is a great idea to cover them. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of the fabric. I did mine with a wooden sign...but this is another great way to mix it up and who knows, hearts may come back in style and all you have to do is remove the fabric....simply brilliant!
ReplyDeleteThose dang hearts are EVERYWHERE!
That turned out great! I won't even buy a piece with hearts on it, because I have a "pie safe" with hearts in the door that I can't part with. It was an anniversary present form hubby years ago. I want to change it and maybe one day soon, I can.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day!
LOVE IT. It looks alot better and I myself am not a heart person either, but this looks fabulous now!!
ReplyDeletehot dog wonderful but I have one heart shelf I can't do that to. DH father made it with love. So the heart on that one has to stay but it will get repainted.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week
P~
Great coverup Ann. I really like your idea. I too have several heart pieces and one idea is to find a rusty star that is big enough to cover the heart and glue it to your wood piece. I suppose you could also cut out a star or something from wood and that would work as well. The possibilities are endless.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. There are so many creative people out here in blogland. So inspirational.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! Thankfully, my husband never liked the cutesy hearts, so we don't have many. But, if I see something at a thrift shop, I now know I can cover it up. I'm thinking with a punch needle project or even a piece of punched tin.

I love the stitched "blessings". I would paint the peg with heart white or black. I think just the oak color gives it the 80's look. (although that is what a lot of my house is)

Great idea. I would never have thought of that. I just fill mine with spackle and paint over it. It looks great the way you did it.
ReplyDeleteI noticed in your post below that you like the Folk Art by Pfaltzgraf. I have a service for 12 with lots of extras. I just love it too. My husband won't let me use it because a lot of the pieces are hard to find.
Have a great day!

What a wonderful idea...I have a little cabinet in my bathroom that has two heart cutouts on the front and need some Stars to cover it with...wish it was possible to do your technique but probably would look silly on a wood door..but your peg rack turned out beautiful.

I am racing to the basement now to pull out all those heart items that I just didn't know what to do with! What an ingenious idea! I love it! Hope that your daughter does well!
